| Outline for Super 8 Production Class | |
Super 8 Production Class will consist of students watching experimental films.
An assignment will be given every two weeks to shoot 1 roll of super 8
film per student. One week will be devoted to shooting and one to
editing. Students will use Super 8 cameras and shoot black and
white film. Film is approximately $10.00 a roll. Students
will buy their own film and pay for their own processing approximately
$16.00 a roll. The exposed film will be collected by the
instructor on a specified day. The classes' film will be shipped
by the instructor to a lab in NYC to be processed.
Each students work will be screened before the class. We will
discuss how the film meets or fails to meet the assignment'ÃÂs criteria,
investigate what the filmmaker is pursuing. The class will explore
composition within the film frame, composition in time, the rhythm of
editing, visual rhyming and the abstract versus the recognizable. |
Students will learn to edit their own work. The films will be
black and white, silent works: a visual poetry. The $10.00 film
cartridge is about 3 minutes of film. The expense of the film may
help the filmmaker to focus on what is of visual importance.
Cleaning and use of the projector will be taught. It will be the
responsibility of the students to project their own film in
class. Classes will start with a few non-film exercises. At least
six rolls of film will be used for six different assignments. A
student can expect to spend $150.00 of their own money on
above-mentioned supplies for class.
Each student will film and edit each of their six rolls
independently. Each student will be provided with a camera to
keep with them through the duration of the class.
If you have your own camera feel free to use it, otherwise cameras are provided |
